Bob's South African Safari
Day Eight: May 1, 2005
In the morning I sat in a hide with Simone next to water in tall grass. A group of young male Impala came in for water. They stood out about 50 yards and studied the watering hole for a while as is their habit. I was waiting for them to come closer when one of the Impala snorted. Simone knew that they would soon bolt because at least one of them smelled us and sounded the warning. He said, “can you hit them from here?” I said, “sure!” He said, “then shoot.” I shot a young impala, my 3rd, with my 45 Long Colt at 50 yards. He went right down.
At last light about 30 minutes before the end of the hunt (5:30 PM) I shot a nice adult male warthog at 100 yards 7STW. I was once again with Simone. The 120 lb male ran in circles and went down. Both Sam and Chris were watching us from the bar overlooking the river bed. They saw it all. They came down with the truck to get the pig and the sun went down. This ended the hunting for the trip.
